Post Boxes and Postal Museum Photos

I am a self described postal junkie. The history of the post office and the integral role it played, and still plays, in the lives of people fascinates me. I often ask students to think about what things were like prior to everyone having a cell phone, and then ask them to think about what things were like prior to everyone having a home phone. News such as births, marriages, deaths, and other family milestones were often delivered via mail. During wartime, the post was often the only link soldiers had to their families back home. Residents in rural areas often utilized the mail truck for rides to town. On every study abroad trip I have taken students on, they are all aware of the cyphers on the post boxes and they often point them out to me, especially the rare ones.
